Show Me How You Can Get Business With Social Media!

My friends and I used to get the same question about once a week, “Show me one way that social media has got us business?!?” We would respond with some pretty good examples, and a few large sales we got directly from using social media sites. The next week we would get the same question. And the next week, and the week after that.
Here is a recent example from my Facebook friends on how to get business using social media. Maybe screenshots will make it easy to understand and remember.
How easy was that? A friend remembered that another friend did fence work, they used social media to make the connection, and then you have a lead and potential business.
So how did Chrissy remember that Rachel’s family builds fences? Maybe some of Rachel’s messages on Facebook used a creative way to remind her friends in need of a fence . . . here’s one:
Ask some of your best clients if they’re on Facebook and friend them. Follow what they’re doing, learn about them, make conversation, remind them about your business, and get more business. Luckily I don’t have to answer the weekly question anymore: “Show me one way you can get business with social media?” But if I did, I would just tell them to visit this post and see what Rachel is doing with social media to help sell fences.
You can even sell fences on Facebook? Yes you can.

Great post Kevin! It's a great way to reconnect your online 'network'. Someone can refer you to the right people/places or things!
Also, you'd be surprised of the ability of FB to find qualified candidates in this tough economy. Saving HR time and expense since the referrals usually are well qualified.
It pays for itself on the front and the back!
People need to understand 'value' and 'making money'!

People overcomplicate social media with terms like branding and visibility. Simply participating on social media tends to remind people of what you do. You remain at the top of their minds and when someone needs your service you're remembered.
This is a great example of that.

Colin, I couldn't agree more, and it's a big pet peeve of mine. I would be a happy man if I never heard the words “brand” or “branding” again. The same thing with “strategic plan” and other big words to make you sound important.
I'm sure you'll do a swell job of not over complicating things for your tribe!

Kevin Hood,
This is a simple, but perfect example on how this goes down on Facebook and other social networks every day. Notice how EASY this conversation occurred. It's not too salesy (at least not until she revised following your suggestion) but it seems natural. It's like you are sincerely helping people out vs. trying to make money. This is the value of using social media tools to connect on this personal level. Sometimes the conversation is a little less direct, and not as easy to 100% attribute to such tools.
